Irene A. Houghton

Irene A. (Coupe) Houghton, 73, of Brown Street, South Attleboro, died on Friday, May 8, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Richard R. Houghton, Sr. to whom she was married on May 30, 1964. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on July 2, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Clorinda (Bandilli) Coupe. She was raised and educated in North Attleboro and was a 1960 graduate of North Attleboro High School. Mrs. Houghton resided in North Attleboro until moving to South Attleboro in 1964. She had her own cake decorating business for 15 years and also taught cake decorating for many of those years. She had been employed as a cafeteria worker at Sturdy Memorial Hospital for ten years prior to her retirement in 2001. Spending time with her family was most important to her and they will cherish the memories they shared. In addition to her husband, she leaves her children: Richard R. Houghton, Jr. of South Attleboro; Timothy S. Houghton of South Attleboro; James A. Houghton of South Attleboro; Brian K. Houghton and his wife, Erika K. (Wolf) Houghton, of Attleboro; two grandchildren: Avery N. and Samuel C. Houghton; a brother-in-law: John Stephen of Attleboro; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, many dear friends and her beloved canine companion, "Tessie", a two-year old miniature Australian shepherd. She was the sister of the late Sheila May Stephen and Roseland Busch. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015 from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. A Memorial Service will immediately follow visitation on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 7:00 PM. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Steward Hospice, 275 Martine St., Fall River, MA 02720. Arrangements are under direction of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, North Attleboro.
