Obituary

Irene Mae (Goodreau) Frechette, resident of Seekonk, passed away Tuesday, July 14th at her home in the early light of day. Her family was close at hand. Irene was the wife of her devoted husband Armand H. Frechette, mother of her 'summer son' Frankie, children Christopher, Carlene, and Catherine, grandmother of Sarah, and great-grandmother of Oliver Rei. She was preceded in death by her dear grandson Timmy, her cousin Ron, and earlier this year by her sister Carlene (Goodreau) Pascale. She will be greatly missed by her big sister Gail Fraser-Giacchi, her husband, children, grandchildren, her generous and attentive nieces and nephews, as well as her many friends and colleagues.

Irene lived her life generous in welcome, intense in work ethic, and fierce in moral standards. After her childhood in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Irene became a mother in the 60's, and in the 70's began her first career in childcare, and the nascent field of computer science in which she excelled. Determined to live her life to the fullest, Irene opened a video store in Rehoboth, cared in her home for both her mother and mother-in-law, traveled in the U.S., Europe, French Canada, Australia, and Taiwan.

Upon retirement Irene did not rest. She began and built a third career focusing on social justice through national and local nonprofits and community volunteerism: A local and national officer of Saint Vincent de Paul, proud member of the Ladies of Charity, Attleboro Area Council of Churches, Self-Sufficiency Coalition, Seekonk Democratic Town Committee, the Attleboro Land Trust, and others. Her final passion and advocacy were in the pursuit of women's ordination in the Catholic Church.

All who have worked, lived, or loved with Irene will carry her conscientious spirit forward.

All services will be held privately.
