Ilene Greene

January 23, 1922 — December 1, 2018

Ilene (Mullaney) Greene, 96, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late John E. Greene to whom she was married for over fifty years, and who passed away on April 27, 1998.
Born on January 23, 1922 in Attleboro, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Evelyn (Dusablon) Mullaney.
Ilene was a lifelong resident of Attleboro and a proud graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1941. She worked for the Wells/Bausch & Lomb Company for many years, having run one of its divisions, and worked as a Bookkeeper for her daughter, Nancy, at Attleboro Jewelers until retiring at the age of eighty. Above all, Ilene always cherished her role as a Homemaker for her family, and as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother.
A woman of great faith, she was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Attleboro. Ilene was a woman of many interests, having enjoyed memberships in a Garden Club, an Art Club, and the Women at Work Museum, and who took great pride in her Irish heritage. An avid reader and skilled seamstress for her family, she genuinely loved Christmas.  She delighted in travel of all kinds, having sometimes traveled by train for months at a time with her husband, and for twelve years they annually visited his military Veteran friends throughout the country. She and Jack loved to cruise and travel from Tennessee and Alaska to Athens, Ireland, England, China, Burma, and India. More than anything, though, Ilene simply loved being with her family.
She was the beloved mother of Nancy (Greene) Young of Attleboro, and her late husband, Gary A. Young, who passed away on December 19, 2017; and Joel Thomas Greene and his wife, Nancy N. (Norton) Greene, of Bristol, RI. Ilene was the proud grandmother of Kimberly A. Read of Attleboro; Heidi I. Applebaum of Florida and Michigan; Eric J. Greene of Las Vegas, NV; and Emily H. Oliveira of Attleboro. She was the adoring great-grandmother of Jeff Read, Blake Read, Ashley Applebaum, Madison Oliveira; Michael Oliveira Jr.; Elizabeth Greene; and Nathaniel Greene; and the dearest great great-grandmother of Kaelyn Read.  Ilene leaves her sisters Jane Marcure and Susan Guard, both of Attleboro and was predeceased by her late siblings: Evelyn Gaumond, Thomas Mullaney, Albert Mullaney, Elizabeth "Betty" Baker, Doris Doyle, Yvonne Gaumond, Francis Mullaney, Steven Mullaney, Peter Mullaney, and Rita Willis.  She leaves many nieces and nephews.
A Private Visitation and Funeral Service will be held for Ilene at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.
Graveside Services will be privately held in St. John's Cemetery, Attleboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Ilene to benefit the Christmas is for Kids program of the Attleboro Area Council for Children, Inc.,4 Hodges Street, Attleboro, MA 02703, would be appreciated.
