Howard "Howie" Franklin Nelson

Howard "Howie" Franklin Nelson, 85, of Plainville, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Beatrice M. (Murphy) Nelson, to whom he was married on October 12, 1957.Born on April 8, 1931 in Central Falls, RI, he was the son of the late Carl A. Nelson, Sr. and the late Edna (Gilmore) Nelson. Howie was a graduate of Tolman Senior High School in Pawtucket, RI. Prior to his retirement in 1998, he was for more than thirty years the former owner and operator of TDR Company, Inc. in South Attleboro and a Machine Shop Forman for Texas Instruments in Attleboro, MA.Howie proudly and honorably served our country as a member of the United States Navy.A member of both the Masons and the Shriners, Howie was a resident of Plainville for the last fifty-one years. He enjoyed working around his home, gardening - especially vegetables and tomato plants, most every kind of animal, and fishing off the dock. He especially enjoyed time spent with his beloved family.In addition to his wife, Beatrice, he is survived by the children whom he adored: Debra N. (Nelson) Tomes and her husband, Kenneth R. Tomes, of Plainville, MA; David W. Nelson and his wife, Karen Nelson, of Attleboro, MA; Dawn M. (Nelson) Poillucci of North Attleboro, MA; Dean E. Nelson of Seekonk, MA; and Diane L. (Nelson) Breard and her husband, Steven Breard, of AZ. He was the father of the late Daniel H. Nelson who died in September 1998.Howie was the cherished grandfather of Christopher Nelson, Tara LaRose, Troy Nelson, Preston Poillucci, Brandon Poillucci, Aaron Poillucci, Brian Poillucci, Savanna Breard, and Sebastian Breard. Howie was the brother of Carl A. Nelson, Jr. of Warren, RI; Jean (Nelson) Hope of Pawtucket, RI; and twin brothers John Nelson of Cumberland, RI and James Nelson of NH. He was the brother of the late Mildred Theresa (Nelson) LaFlamme, Douglas Nelson, Robert Nelson, and Joan (Nelson) Davidson. He leaves many nieces and nephews and dear friends.Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Visitation with full Veteran's Honors on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.A Funeral Service will immediately follow visitation on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.Children's room is available during visitation and funeral services.Those in need of a local ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such complimentary transportation.
