Hope Grant (Johnson) King, 91, of Cranston, Rhode Island, died on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas W. King who died on May 4, 1999. Born in East Providence, Rhode Island on January 28, 1920, she was a daughter of the late John and Olive (Grant) Johnson. She was raised and educated in East Providence, Rhode Island and resided in Cranston, Rhode Island for more than 50 years. Mrs. King was employed as a librarian for Brown University in Providence for many years prior to retiring. She attended the Edgewood Congregational Church in Cranston. Her favorite pastimes included playing cards with family and friends and dancing. She leaves a sister: Thelma L. Gray of North Attleboro; a niece: Carol H. Gray McCarthy and her husband, Kenneth McCarthy, of North Attleboro; a nephew: John H. Gray and his wife, Linda Gray, of Attleboro and three step children and extended family members. She was the sister of the late Evelyn M. Mattson. Public services have been respectfully omitted. A private visitation and funeral service will be held in the Swan Point Chapel of Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, Rhode Island on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 with the Rev. Katrina Clinton, former pastor of the First Congregational Church, Old Post Road, North Attleboro, officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden Mausoleum of Swan Point Cemetery. The family will gather in the Reception Room adjacent to the chapel following services for a time of continued fellowship and remembrance.
