Henry William Bachand

Henry "Hank" William Bachand, 74, of Kimberly Drive, North Attleboro, died on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Carol F. (Foster) Bachand to whom he was married on September 7th, 1968. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on October 9, 1940, he was a son of the late Henry O. and Martha S. Ellonen. He was raised and educated in Springfield. Henry graduated from Technical High School in Springfield Massachusetts. Earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Morehead State University in Kentucky on August 7th, 1969. Henry also earned a Masters of Education from Rhode Island College on June 8th, 1973. Mr. Bachand was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Newport Rhode Island until his honorable discharge in November 1962. He was employed as an industrial arts teacher for the Mansfield School Department for eighteen years until his retirement in June 1999. Previously, Mr. Bachand was an industrial arts teacher for the Town of Norwood School Department for the previous twelve years. Henry also worked as a Barnstable Police officer. Prior to moving to North Attleboro in 1970, he resided in Foxboro and Kentucky. A member of Central Congregational Church in the Village of Attleboro Falls since 1970, he served his church community in a number of volunteer capacities including as trustee, financial assistant secretary, proxy manager for the recent lighting upgrade, oversaw the construction of the new church entrance and stairs, was a member of the annual auction committee and was willing to always "help wherever it was needed." Mr. Bachand served as a member of the North Attleboro Police Department Renovation Committee and enjoyed photography, gardening with his wife and woodworking projects. For many years he performed small construction jobs throughout the area. He will be lovingly remembered for his gentle soul, warm personality and being a friend to many. In addition to his wife of 46 years, he leaves a daughter: Karin E. Marroquin and her husband, Mario Marroquin, of Norton; twin sons: Scott H. Bachand and his wife, Kelliann (O'Donnell) Bachand, of North Attleboro and David F. Bachand and his partner, Michael Lou, of Quincy; four grandchildren: Kaitlin and Julie Marroquin both of Norton and Hannah and William Bachand both of North Attleboro; a nephew: Robert Anastas of Springfield and several extended family members and dear friends. He was the brother of the late Martha G. Anastas and was the uncle of the late Deborah Anastas. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Service Celebrating His Life on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Central Congregational Church, 115 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, and North Attleboro with the Rev. Carole L. Baker, Pastor, officiating. Private burial with military honors will be held in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro. Following church services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments in the vestry of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Bachand's name may be made to the Memorial Gifts Fund of Central Congregational Church, PO Box 1319, Attleboro Falls, and MA 02763.
