Helen C. (Baptista) Steele, 84, of Pine Street, Rehoboth, died on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Golden Living Center - Attleboro. She was the wife of Kenneth H. Steele to whom she was married on September 1, 1947. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on December 8, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Joaquim S. and Maria (Regends) Baptista. She was a resident of Rehoboth for the past seven years having returned to Massachusetts from Florida and was a former resident of South Attleboro for most of her life. Mrs. Steele was employed by Sadler Bros. Inc. in South Attleboro for 36 years prior to her retirement. While residing in South Attleboro, Mrs. Steele was a communicant of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church. She was a past member of the American Legion - Post 312 in South Attleboro and was a past member of the Christian Mother's Club. Her favorite pastimes included playing bingo while residing in Florida and she enjoyed good food and traveling. She loved and cherished the visits to Disney World in Florida. Mrs. Steele was a volunteer with her husband at the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Florida. In addition to her husband of almost 65 years, she leaves two daughters: Gail M. Fiske of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Donna L. Drape and her husband, Richard J. Drape, of Rehoboth; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by all of her siblings. Richard Roy, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, North Main Street, Attleboro, officiating. Burial will follow in Newell Burial Ground, South Attleboro. Children's room available during visitation and the funeral service. An invitation will be extended following cemetery services to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the American Legion, Newport Avenue, South Attleboro.
