Helen C. Skaanning "Nannie"

Helen (Conant) Skaanning, also known as "Nannie" to so many, of North Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.. After 89½ years of great health, a stroke in July, 2023 provided six months of rest in her favorite place, her own home. It was then that she was finally ready to let others serve her. She was the beloved wife of the late Erik Skaanning for 52 years.
Born on December 27, 1933 in Dedham, MA, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Sarah (Miller) Conant. Helen worked as a deputy sheriff and office secretary and had many hobbies at different stages of life, including skating, skiing and hiking with the youth group she led, table games, knitting and sewing, painting, cooking, travel, caring for her dog, and making her home a welcoming place for all. Everyone who knew her observed how passionate she was about serving people, especially in her home; and she took great delight in her church friends and gatherings with her growing family, especially the great grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted children, Julie A. Shorey of North Attleboro, MA.,  Jodi E. Rodman of Attleboro, MA., and Rick Skanning and his wife Carol of Waltham, MA. She is also survived by 11 cherished grandchildren, 18 sweet great-grandchildren, and loyal sisters/friends, Esther Carter of Attleboro, MA., and Betty Hopkins of California. She was the sister of the late Emma Griffin, Maude Gustavison, Elmer Conant, Bob Conant, Marge Griffin, Jean Grossi, Marion Clark, and Nancy Gomes.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of Emmanuel, 106 Central Street, Foxboro. Calling hours will take place Friday evening between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at New Covenant Christian Fellowship, 609 North Main, Attleboro.
