Harshad M. Patel, M.D.

Harshad M. Patel, M.D., 61, of Taunton, MA, unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 in Orlando, FL. He was the beloved husband of Hasumati H. (Amin) Patel, to whom he was married on October 10, 1980.Born on January 16, 1957 in Ahmedabad, India, he was the son of the late Manilal and Maniben Patel. Raised and educated in India, Dr. Patel worked as a family practitioner for more than twenty-five years in Taunton, before his retirement in 2011.A resident of Taunton since 1985, he previously lived in Bridgewater, MA, and in New Jersey.A man of great faith and devotion, he was a member of BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Sharon, MA, where he also served as a Hindu teacher for the children there. A warm, jovial and outgoing man, he most especially loved being with his family and friends, and enjoyed cooking, reading, exercising, painting, and could often be heard telling jokes. In addition to his wife, Hasumati, he leaves his loving children: twins Puja R. Tirur and her husband, Rajeev R. Tirur, of Somerville, MA; and Palak H.Patel and his wife, Savita Azza-Patel, of Orlando, FL. He was looking forward with great excitement to the birth of his first grandchild, a grandson. He leaves his brother-in-law, Jitendra Amin and his wife, Jyotsna Amin, of South Attleboro, MA; his niece, Parita Amin; and his nephew, Miten Amin. Dr. Patel was the son-in-law of Shantaben Amin of South Attleboro, MA, and the late Somabhai Amin. He will be missed by many dear friends.Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and remember Harshad at a Visitation on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, immediately followed by a Hindu funeral service at 3:15 p.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home. A brief traditional Hindu service will follow at 3:15 p.m. at Woodlawn North Purchase Crematory, Attleboro, MA.
