Harold "Jake" William Brederson, Sr.

Harold "Jake" William Brederson, Sr., 83, of Attleboro, MA passed away on January 26, 2021 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA.
Born in Attleboro, MA on January 16, 1938, he was a son of the late Charles Brederson, Sr., and the late Alice (Berghman) Brederson.  He was a graduate of Attleboro High School and resided in the city for most of his life.
Mr. Brederson was once a burner service technician and was in retail for 22 years having been employed by Woolworth's and Ann & Hope.  He previously served as a police officer for the City of Attleboro from 1967 - 1972.
However, he is best known for training amateur boxers for more than five decades.  In the basement of the Pine Street Armory, Brederson trained boys to become men and took kids off the streets and away from drugs and violence.  For many years he was affiliated with the Attleboro Recreation Department having mentored and trained thousands of kids and adults over the years.
He had been a power walker and runner in his youth, once finishing 69th in the 1960 Boston Marathon.  He completed 17 of those 26.2-mile races and once walked the 202 miles from New York to Providence, Rhode Island.
He leaves five children: Alice Brederson of Attleboro, MA; Harold W. Brederson, Jr. of Worcester, MA; Ronald Brederson of Attleboro, MA; Vanessa L. O'Connor of Cranston, RI and Stefanie Cobb in Alabama; many grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Visitation has been respectfully omitted.
Funeral services will be private followed by burial in Newell Burying Ground, South Attleboro, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Attleboro Recreation Department, 81 Pine Street, Attleboro, MA  02703.
