Harold J. Mackinnon

Harold Joseph MacKinnon, 93, of Cumberland, RI, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. Born on May 25, 1923 in Framingham, MA, he was the son of the late Angelo Giovannella and the late Ann B. (MacKinnon) Giovannella. Harold proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1945, earning Navy campaign metals for his participation in Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific operations. In 1946, he was Coast Guard certified for employment with the Merchant Marine. He also worked for many years as a Mason for JST Construction in Seekonk, MA before retiring in 1989. A resident of Cumberland, RI for the past ten years, he previously lived for thirty years in North Attleboro, MA. He was a past member of St. Mary's Church in North Attleboro, and of St. Mary's Church in Franklin, MA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, collecting coins, black powder shooting, watching news programs, and simply spending time with good friends. He is survived by his beloved son, Michael H. MacKinnon of Cumberland, RI, three nieces, four nephews, and many dear friends. Harold was the former husband of Dea M. (Yarnall) MacKinnon.
