Hamako O. (Ogawa) Mankowski, 91, of Smithfield, RI, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Heritage Hills Nursing Center in Smithfield, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Stanley Mankowski Jr. who passed away on December 8, 1997.
Born on March 13, 1928 in Kure, Japan, where she was raised and educated, Hamako worked for many years for Hasbro, Inc. in Pawtucket, RI, and then for more than twenty years for Superior Plastic in Cumberland, RI.
A resident of Smithfield for the past five years, Hamako previously lived in Attleboro, MA.
An outgoing and caring woman, Hamako enjoyed sewing; cooking; rooting for the New England Patriots, especially Rob Gronkowski; and trips to Twin River Casino. She was a longtime member of the Japan-America Society of Rhode Island and was very close to the "girls" at the Japanese Society. More than anything, she treasured her family and cherished spending time with them.
She was the loving mother of Linda J. Mankowski of Smithfield, RI; and Karen A. Lund and her husband, Richard P. Lund Jr., of Mansfield, MA. Hamako was the proud and adoring grandmother of Eric A. Lund and Ryan P. Lund. She was preceded in death by her sister and three brothers.
