Gwendolyn Scavella Cave, 90, of North Attleboro, MA, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Allan Charles Cave, Sr. for sixty-one years. Born on January 24, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Eric and Mary Scavella. Gwendolyn was a graduate of Overbrook High School, Philadelphia, PA, Class of 1942, and Howard University, Class of 1946. She was the first black female to be hired at IBM in Endicott, NY. She worked as a social worker for the city of Binghamton and as a teacher in the Binghamton School Department before retiring from the IBM Corporation in 1990.A recent resident of North Attleboro, Gwendolyn lived for many years in Vestal, NY. Her greatest love and pride was for her family, and she truly cherished spending time with them. She enjoyed travel, painting, knitting, crocheting, and simply watching people. She had been a member of Christ Church in Binghamton, NY. Gwendolyn long enjoyed the companionship of her Dachshunds over the years. She is survived by her children: Hope Cave Jackson and her husband, Les Jackson, of Kinsale, VA; Robin Cave Alves and her husband, Curtis M. Alves, of North Attleboro, MA; and Allan Charles Cave, Jr., and his wife, Lisa B. Newlin, of Clarendon Hills, IL. She leaves seven treasured grandchildren: Dana L. Brundage, Anthony "T.J." Battle, Danny E. Brundage, Calin F. Cave, Taylor A. Alves, Maya N. Cave, and Allan Charles Cave, III; and one cherished great-grandson: Anthony James Battle. Gwendolyn shared a special bond with her niece Brenda Cave James, of Endicott, NY; her nephew Mark C.
