Gordon A. Gaskill, 87, of South Avenue, Harrisonburg, Virginia; formerly of West Virginia; Braintree and Freetown, New Hampshire; died on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He was the 40-year partner of Douglas Stetson. Born in Milton, Massachusetts on August 21, 1924, he was a son of the late Leroy A. and Helen (Nickerson) Gaskill. He graduated from Braintree High School in 1942 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University and his Master's degree from Brown University. Mr. Gaskill was employed as the Head Librarian at the Waltham Public Library for 25 years prior to retiring and moving to West Virginia where he treasured the last 20 years farming and living the life of a farmer. His favorite pastimes included the time spent with his treasured partner of 40 years, Douglas Stetson and with his family. Both Mr. Gaskill and Mr. Stetson enjoyed owning and operating a full running farm in both West Virginia and previously in Freetown, New Hampshire. The owners of numerous farm animals, they enjoyed horses and breeding miniature dashers. In addition to his loving partner, he leaves his sister-in-law: Dorothy M. (Grant) Gaskill of West Wareham; a niece: Susan J. (Gaskill) Farquharson of Norton; two nephews: Paul R. Gaskill of Bourne and David P. Gaskill of Easton and three great nieces: Lindsay N. Gaskill of Bourne; Danielle L. Gaskill of Bourne and Marissa L. McCabe of Norton. He was the brother of the late Richard Irving Gaskill and was the uncle of the late Douglas K. Gaskill. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. The funeral cortege will leave the funeral home at 11:00 AM and proceed to Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree for graveside services with the Rev. Carol L. Baker, Pastor of Central Congregational Church, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, officiating. Burial will follow next to his beloved parents.
