Gladys Marie (Ribbe) Dailey, 96, of North Avenue, Attleboro, a retired registered nurse, died on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro following the onset of illness in May. She was the wife of the late Charles E. Dailey, Sr. who died in 1970. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on June 4, 1915, she was a daughter of the late John V. and Alma A. (Johnson) Ribbe. She was raised and educated in the City of Attleboro where she was a 1933 graduate of Attleboro High School. She was a 1936 graduate of the former Pawtucket Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and later attended Brown University where she studied obstetrics. As a registered nurse, Mrs. Dailey worked from 1936 1940 in the Obstetrics Department at the former Pawtucket Memorial Hospital and later was employed as a floor nurse and private duty nurse affiliated with Sturdy Memorial Hospital. In later years, Mrs. Dailey was employed as the industrial nurse for L. G. Balfour Company in Attleboro for six years and worked part-time for the former Pleasant Manor Nursing Home and the Community Visiting Nurse Agency in Attleboro. She was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Attleboro where she was a member of the Attleboro Covenant Womens Group. Mrs. Dailey was a member of the Graduate Nurses Club of Attleboro and the Alumni Association of Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, formerly Pawtucket Memorial Hospital. She leaves a son: Charles E. Dailey, Jr. and his wife, Phyllis A. (Haskell) Dailey, of Attleboro; a grandson: Sean Dailey of Clinton; two sisters: Ruth Hanson of Tucson, Arizona and Eunice Lund of Attleboro; several nieces and nephews including her devoted niece: Carolyn Shepard of Attleboro; a cousin: Edna Swanson of Cromwell, Connecticut and several extended family members and dear friends. She was the sister of the late Evelyn Pendleton and Irene Wilmarth. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 from 3:00 6:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 841 North Main Street Route 152, Attleboro with the Rev. Jay Fast, Associate Pastor for Youth and Congregational Life, officiating. Burial will follow in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro. Childrens room available during visitation. Following funeral services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship, refreshments and remembrance at a location to be announced.
