Girard "Jerry" A. Gagnon, 83, of North Attleboro, formerly of Plainville, passed away at home on Monday, January 6, 2014. He was the husband of Mary E. (Powell) Gagnon to whom he married on August 22, 1953. Born in Central Falls, RI on December 17, 1930, he was a son of the late Eugene A. and Lillian A. (Theroux) Gagnon. Mr. Gagnon proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves prior to and then in the United States Army during the Korean War. Girard was employed as a truck driver at Teknor Apex in Pawtucket, RI for over 42 years prior to his retirement in 1994. He was a devout Catholic and a communicant of St. Martha's Church in Plainville. Jerry was known for his love of life. He participated in many outdoor activities such as boating, fishing and camping. He had a tremendous love of football, having played semi-pro in his youth. Another pasttime he enjoyed was dancing with his wife. Most important to him was his family. Mr. Gagnon was a member of D.A.V., North Attleboro Elks and V.F.W. In addition to his wife of 60 years, he leaves three children: Stephen G. Gagnon and his wife Lorena J. Gagnon, of Centerville; Donna L. Grassi and her husband Alan D. Grassi, of Blackstone; Mary J. Mayer and her husband Jeffrey J. Mayer, of Cumberland, RI; two sisters: Dorothy Shabo of Pawtucket, RI; Claire Coia of Cumberland, RI; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his brother Eugene Gagnon. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation with Veteran's Honors on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 5-8 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend funeral services on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 8:15 AM from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at St. Martha's Church, 227 South Street - Route 1A, Plainville.
