Gertraude A. (Sicksch) Nosko, 89, of Providence, RI, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 25, 2019 at the Linn Health and Rehabilitation Center in East Providence RI. She was the loving wife of the late Otto Nosko.
Born on April 5, 1930 in Kamenz, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell Sicksch and the late Frieda Sicksch.
Gertraude immigrated to the United States in December of 1955 with her husband and eldest daughter and settled in Fall River, MA to raise four more children. She was known for her extraordinary baking skills, and no birthday party or social occasion was complete without one of her famous strudels or tortes.
She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing many of her children's outfits along with her tailor husband. Gertraude briefly worked in one of Fall River's sewing mills in the 1970's and 1980's. She also completed a home health aide course and worked as such for a time in the 1980's.
Once her children were grown, she often spent weekends in the Catskills and the White Mountains, cross country skiing with her husband and friends and reminiscing about the mountains, music and foods of Bavaria. She often spoke about how it reminded her of her childhood and growing up in the picturesque countryside of Germany.
Gertraude was the loving mother of Gertraude Warren of Hull, MA; Peter Nosko of Germantown, MD; Irene Martin of Rumford, RI; Nikolaus Nosko of Fall River, MA; and Ingrid Nevar of Holyoke, MA. She was the adoring grandmother of Colby L. Wells DeGraaf of Breckenridge, CO; Lauren Tondreault of Pawtucket, RI; Eric Martin of East Providence, RI; Lyle Martin of East Providence, RI; Rachel Tondreault of East Providence, RI; and Nikole Nosko of Fall River, MA; and the proud great-grandmother of Nicolae, Damon and Stella Martin, all of East Providence, RI.
A private Memorial Service is planned for late May of this year to honor Gertraude's life and to scatter her ashes in her favorite places.
