With heavy hearts the family of Gerald A. Miller of North Attleboro, MA, announces his peaceful passing with the loving support of his family at All American Assisted Living in Wrentham, MA. He died on Sunday, February 23, 2025, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Gerry was born in Providence, RI on April 2,1946 to the late Beatrice (Goldstein) and Morris Miller.
He graduated from Pilgrim High School in Warwick, RI in 1963. He went on to graduate from the University of Rhode Island in 1967. At URI, he was a founding member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and served as Vice President. He also graduated from the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1970 with an MBA.
After graduation from URI, Gerry joined the Army and became part of the 5th Mechanized Infantry Division serving in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam along the DMZ border. It was there that Gerry experienced many things that shocked his kind and gentle soul. He was honorably discharged in August of 1969 earning the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Army Commendation Medal among other awards.
On January 2, 1971, he married the love of his life, Maureen (Healy) Miller. He and Maureen had met in the Springtime of 1967 shortly before they both graduated from URI. As it turned out, the “shy, quiet, and conservative” Mr. Miller and the “rather boisterous” Miss Healy were a good match. They were married 54 years at the time of his passing. Their union blessed them with two daughters, Kara Miller of North Attleboro, MA and Jennifer (Miller) Fine and her husband Jason Fine of Franklin, MA.
In their turn, Jennifer and Kara blessed Maureen and Gerry with 5 precious grandchildren, Brody and Wyatt Fine, Aaron and Nathan Coddaire, and the light of their lives, Liana Coddaire.
He is also survived by his cousin: Les Meyer of Vermont and his beloved niece: Colleen Healy of East Providence, RI. and also, his nephew and niece, Brian Miller and Ann Connolly of RI.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Dr. Leonard C. Miller and Barry F. Miller.
Early in his career, he worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston as an analyst. It was there that he found an interest in executive compensation. He went on to work for US Trust Boston, Genrade, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Clark Bardis Consulting among other firms.
Gerry was a devoted friend of Centenary United Methodist Church in Attleboro for more than 30 years. He enjoyed the challenge of doing the NY Times Crossword puzzle with a pen. He loved working in his yard and taking care of his lawn. Gerry took great pride in the beautiful home that he built for his wife and girls in North Attleboro. Nothing was too good for them.
He loved Maureen’s “tasty” home cooked meals that she prepared for him. He enjoyed golfing with his buddy Ray Watson, his grandsons and his son-in-law. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sport and school events, and being with his beloved family was the centerpiece of his life. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and the NE Patriots, and we’re sure he would give them another chance.
He especially enjoyed his travels with Maureen. Treasured memories were made near and far including Blithewold Mansion and Gardens in Bristol RI, their beloved Coast of Maine, Siesta Key, Florida, Ireland, England, France, and Switzerland. Especially meaningful was their trip to Normandy and the Omaha Beach American Cemetery. They took numerous cruises to Canada and the Caribbean. They took many trips within the US, the Grand Canyon, Mt Rushmore in South Dakota, Big Sur in California, and the Inside Passage of Alaska. The beauty of all these places inspired them. They also had a special interest in art museums and gardens and would try to include them in every itinerary.
Most of all, Gerry will be remembered for the blessing that he was…a kind, giving, humble and Good Man who will remain in our hearts forever. He truly lived this simple creed, “The Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man.”
The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Bensson, Gerry’s physician for over 30 years, Dr. Mark Lucey his current physician, Dr. Victoria Chang his neurologist at the Providence VA, and Veirgi his devoted private aide at All American. Thanks also to the wonderful staff of the Attleboro Norton YMCA Neurological Disease Program, and Leigh Fontes for all the kindness extended to both Gerry and Maureen.
