George W. Messier, 85, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, sadly passed peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loved ones on October 27, 2022. He loved and was devoted to his best friend, his wife of 58 years, Kathleen "Kay" (Regan) Messier, who passed eight years ago.
Born in 1936 in Central Falls, RI, to the late Henry Messier and the late Florence (Grenier) Messier, he left high school in 10th grade to work in a factory to help support his family. He learned his trade as a die stamper working at L.G. Balfour, Co., Custom Engravers, Regal Press and ArtCraft. He also worked a second job as a bartender.
He taught his children the importance of respect and family. He supported his parents and other family members whenever he could. He was the only Dad to play baseball with the neighborhood children on the weekends and coached his son, Tom, in the Little North Attleboro League.
A natural athlete, who excelled in sports, he passed on those genes to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sunday dinners were a time for family, enjoying the grandkids running around, and Easter egg hunts, among other activities. During birthday parties in the backyard, George would invite other neighborhood children so they would not be left out.
He is survived by his five beloved children: Kathleen Fontaine of Plainville, MA, Diane White of Pawtucket, RI, Babs Messier of North Attleboro, MA, Tom Messier of Weyauwega, WI, and Karen Ray of Milton, GA; twelve grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Henry Messier and Maurice Messier and is survived by his sister Elaine Barboza of Seekonk, MA and brother Conrad Messier of Rehoboth, MA, his sister-in-law Patricia Devlin, Pawtucket, RI, and his brother-in-law and his wife Thomas and Inez Regan of Pawtucket, RI and many nieces and nephews.
