George A. Marcotte

George A. Marcotte, 84, of North Attleboro, MA, died on May 27, 2012, at Madonna Manor in North Attleboro. He was the husband of Doris E. (Thibeault) Marcotte, to whom he had been married for 56 years. Born in Central Falls on August 28, 1927, George was the son of the late Albert E. and Augusta (Gelinas) Marcotte. He was raised in Central Falls and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the Korean War. After marrying on September 24, 1955, he moved to Pawtucket, where he raised his family and resided for 37 years. He has lived in North Attleboro for the past 20 years. George was a skilled and gifted craftsman. Prior to retiring in 1989, he was a carpenter and a member of the Carpenters' Local 94 in Warwick, RI. George loved the outdoors and the mountains. As a member of the White Mountain Four Thousand Footer Club, he was an accomplished hiker who conquered many peaks. During a trip to Switzerland, he realized a life-long dream of seeing the Matterhorn. He was a sports enthusiast with a particular love for the Boston Red Sox. Also an avid reader, George had an insatiable curiosity and was a constant learner. He will always be remembered by his children as a patient teacher who generously shared his time and talents. His grandchildren will remember him as a kind-hearted, lovable jokester who always had a mischievous grin and a twinkle in his eye. George was a communicant of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Attleboro Falls. He also enjoyed walking and playing cribbage with his many friends at the Emerald Square Mall. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Denise McNamee, and her husband, Robert, of Attleboro; and his son, Donald Marcotte, and his wife, Martha (LaFrancois), of Seekonk. He was the grandfather of Erin McNamee of Somerville, MA; Benjamin George McNamee of Binghamton, NY; and Marissa Marcotte of Seekonk. He was the brother of Rita Champagne of East Providence; Armand Marcotte of South Attleboro; Real Marcotte of Crestview, FL; Marcel Marcotte of Esmond, RI; Irene Lemonde of Attleboro; and Laurent Marcotte of Southbridge, MA. He was also the brother of the late Claire Jutras, Omer Marcotte, and Felix Marcotte. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran's Honors on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the 'Memorial Chapel' of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Family and friends are welcome to attend the funeral on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 8:45 AM from the 'Memorial Chapel' of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 115 Stanley Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Children's room available during visitation and while the funeral cortge is being organized. For those in need of local transportation to visitation simply call 508-695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation.
