George J. Economou

George J. Economou, 85, of Norton, MA passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA.Born in Haverhill, MA on September 3, 1937, he was a son of the late Jesses G. Economou and the late Kallianthe (Victor) Economou. He was raised and educated in his hometown of Newburyport where he was a 1955 graduate of Newburyport High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Northeastern University in Boston, MA in 1960. He later performed graduate work in his field of study.He resided in Norton, MA for more than 50 years and was a member of Murray Unitarian Universalist Church in Attleboro, MA for many years.Mr. Economou was employed as a physicist for the United States government in various roles, and was later a self-employed consultant for more than 25 years prior to his retirement in 2001.He leaves his sons, Stefan (Ruth) of Cambridge, MA and Peter (Susan) of Charleston, WV, and grandchildren Elise and Lucas Economou. He was the brother of Cleo Stickney and the late Mary Leighton, and leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He will be greatly missed for his kindness, generosity, and superb analytical mind.
