Fredrick B. Goodine, 83, of Mansfield Avenue, Norton, a native of Boston's South End, died on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the husband of Mary E. (Empey) Goodine to whom he was married on November 20, 1951. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 1, 1931, he was a son of the late Bartholomew and Laura Anne (Ward) Goodine. He was raised and educated in Boston's South End and resided in the city until moving to Norton 38 years ago. Mr. Goodine was employed for more than 20 years as a porter and flag man for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority having worked at various stations throughout his career prior to his retirement. Previously, Mr. Goodine had been employed as a painter for Boston University. A man of artistic talent, he enjoyed drawing, particularly in charcoal, and creating oil paintings. He loved the music of the big band era and was an ardent dancer. His most treasured times were those spent in the company of his cherished grandchildren making them laugh and smile with his gregarious personality, quick wit and jovial mood. He enjoyed making people laugh, liked to share a joke and would engage in conversation with total strangers and have fun with the interaction. He greeted everyone with a smile and will be remembered for his ability to engage others and make a lasting impression. In addition to his wife, he leaves five children: Frederick Goodine and his wife, Lori Goodine, of Strasburg, Virginia; Deborah L. Cochrane and her fiancé, Eugene Bousquet, of North Attleboro; Marianne Tessicini, wife of the late Joseph F. Tessicini, of North Attleboro; John R. Goodine and his partner, Linda Bartlett, of Jefferson, Virginia; and Regina Goodine and her spouse, Virginia Patrick, of North Attleboro; seven grandchildren: Alicia, Sarah, Kristen, Joshua, Benjamin, Jordan and Joseph; seven great grandchildren: Jasmine, Thomas, Niamh, Amber, Sean, Mason and Logan; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was the brother of the late George Goodine, Frank Goodine and Marita Craig. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Columbus Day, Monday, October 13, 2014 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Service immediately following visitation on Columbus Day, October 13, 2014 at 8:00PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral. Burial will be private. Children's room is available during the visitation and the funeral service.
