Fred A. Reed, 76, of Richardson Avenue, Attleboro, died on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Golden Living Center - Attleboro following a period of declining health. Born in Mansfield, Massachusetts on February 26, 1936, he was a son of the late William W. and Myrtle L. (Lovely) Reed. He was a 1955 graduate of the Henry O. Peabody School in Norwood. During his sophomore year, Mr. Reed spent the summer working at the Mountain View House in Whitefield, New Hampshire and worked part-time through his high school years at Grace Rogers Nursing Homes. He began his professional career at the Canton School for Crippled Children and later worked at the Monomonock Inn in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. From 1958 - 1959, Mr. Reed was the owner and operator of "Freddie's Nibble Nook" Restaurant in Attleboro. He later worked for Wheaton College in Norton, Governor Dummer in Byfield, the Spruce Point Inn at Booth Bay Harbor, Maine, Simmon's College and from 1966 - 1975 he was employed at The Narragansett in Kennebunkport, Maine. In 1970, Mr. Reed went to work at the Pomfret School for Boys in Pomfret, Connecticut where he worked until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Reed resided in Attleboro since 2001 having formerly resided at Pine Oaks in Harwich from 1991 - 2001 and previously in Pomfret, Connecticut. Mr. Reed enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. His favorite pastimes included gardening, cooking, dancing, going on trips and most especially being trackside and watching harness horse racing. He leaves his siblings: Martha Reed Bennett of Harwich; William H. Reed of Bradford, Vermont and Mildred L. Reed of Attleboro; ten nieces, two nephews, 14 great nieces, 12 great nephews and many great great nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary L. Reed and Donald H. Reed. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. Funeral services and burial will be private.
