Francis "Frank" Anthony Giacoppo, Sr.

Francis "Frank" Anthony Giacoppo, Sr., 95, of Bonneau Street, North Attleboro, died on Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Rose Elizabeth (Chiacchia) Giacoppo to whom he was married on February 17, 1946 and who died on November 24, 2009. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 31, 1920, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Dominica (Parisi) Giacoppo. He was raised and educated in the City of Boston where he was a 1938 graduate of the former Mechanic Arts High School. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mr. Giacoppo was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II from July 1943 until his honorable discharge in December 1945. He achieved the rank of T/5 and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He remained a lifelong patriot and proud veteran. He moved to West Newton from Boston where he resided until moving to North Attleboro in 1957. Mr. Giacoppo was employed as a toolmaker and foreman for I.D.L., later known as Kollmorgen Color Systems, of Attleboro where he worked on numerous projects including NASA initiatives for many years prior to his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Attleboro Foreman's Club, the Avanti Italian Club in North Attleboro and was a former member of the B.P.O.E. - Lodge #1011 in North Attleboro. An ardent cook, he enjoyed sharing his cuisine with family and friends. Previously, he was a communicant of St. Martha's Roman Catholic Church in Plainville and more recently was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in North Attleboro. He was a man of strong religious beliefs and was a strong supporter of the Dominican Sisters of Peace in Plainville. His most important life accomplishment was that of being a dedicated and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to his cherished family. He leaves four children: Lianne M. Bochicchio of Weymouth; Francis A. Giacoppo, Jr. and his wife, Sheila Giacoppo, of Coventry, Rhode Island; Kenneth R. Giacoppo, husband of the late Sharyn M. (LaMothe) Giacoppo who died in 2000, of North Attleboro; Janis R. Rigano and her husband, Edward Rigano, of Cumberland, Rhode Island; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. He was the brother of the late Orazio "Ozzy" S. Giacoppo. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran's Honors on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of transportation to visitation may simply call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the Funeral Service with Veteran's Honors on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 8:45 AM from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 58 Church Street, North Attleboro with Rev. David A. Costa, Pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Children's room available during visitation and as people are gathering for the funeral cortege. Following church services, family and friends will be invited to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Giacoppo's name may be made to Hasbro Children's Hospital, 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02903.
