Fernando "Freddy" A. Ferreira, 82, of North Providence, RI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Sara (Silva) Ferreira, whom he married on July 27, 1963.
Born on December 18, 1937 in Brava, Cape Verde Islands. He was the son of the late Jose´ Osorio Ferreira and the late Rosa (Neves) Ferreira.
Freddy emigrated to the United Stated in 1952. He worked as a Merchant Marine for the Exxon-Mobil company for many years as a Chief Cook aboard numerous tankers and tugboats before retiring in 1995. Freddy was a resident of North Providence since 1979.
A man of deep faith and devotion, he was a very active and longtime member of Bethany Church of the Nazarene in Rumford, RI, where he proudly served, among other roles, as a Church Usher. The focus of Freddy's life was his cherished family and he truly loved spending time with them, especially for Sunday lunches, family vacations, and holiday get togethers. He had a passion for cooking, watching baseball (especially the Red Sox), and fishing. He also liked spending time gardening with his sweet wife.
In addition to his wife, Sara, he leaves his loving children: Fred Ferreira and his wife, Diane E. Ferreira, of Norwood, MA; Richard S. Ferreira and his wife, Natalie Colon, of Kissimmee, FL; Mark S. Ferreira and his wife, Gina Ferreira, of Rehoboth, MA; Rebeca A. Ferreira-Rodriguez and her husband, Sandy Rodriguez, of Ramsey, NJ; and Michael S. Ferreira and his wife, Erica T. Ferreira, of Rumford, RI. He was the proud grandfather of Amanda, Jimmy, Vanessa, Joshua, Isabella, Matty, Cristina, Ayden, Nathan, Lucas, Sofia, Molly, and Mason; and the adoring great-grandfather of Aiden. Freddy was the dear brother of Benilde Costa of Mattapoisett, MA, and Eurico Ferreira of South Dartmouth, MA, and was the brother of the late Alcides A. Ferreira. He leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many dear friends.
With strict adherence to applicable Covid-19 health precautions, including social distancing and the mandatory use of facemasks, relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Visitation on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
Funeral Services will be privately held in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, followed by a Private Graveside Service in Rumford Cemetery, Rumford, RI.
