Fernande Gisele (Drouin) Kornichuk passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on July 18, 2024. She was the beloved widow of the late Paul J. Kornichuk. Born on January 25, 1935 in Three Rivers, Quebec, Fern was the fourth of five children of the late Edmund Joseph and Marie Ange (Lafontaine) Drouin.
Fern was raised in Kensington Connecticut and married Paul J. Kornichuk in 1958. Together they raised two children in Forestville CT. Fern and Paul were married for 45 years before his passing in 2004. She worked for many years as the Assistant Personnel Director for the Town of Bristol Connecticut, retiring in 1996.
Fern had many hobbies, including quilting, sewing knitting, crocheting, and painting. She was also a very talented cook and baker. She also enjoyed skiing and traveling with her family. In her retirement, she spent many hours volunteering at the Bristol Senior Center where she made lots of new friends and meaningful community connections.
Fern is survived by her daughter Denise (Kornichuk) Lindley and her husband Mark Lindley of South Kingstown Rhode Island, her son Glenn Kornichuk and his partner Julie Elmore of Ayer Massachusetts, her four grandchildren Meghan Lindley and Eric Lindley (both of Rhode Island), Chris Kornichuk of Somerville MA, Greg Kornichuk and his wife Jenna (Andrianopoulos) Kornichuk of Lakeville MA, whose son Colin Kornichuk adored his great-grandmother.
Burial services will be held later this summer and will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans through their website: dav.org.
