Father Steven R. Furtado

Reverend Steven R. Furtado passed away peacefully into eternal rest on March 1, 2016 at Charlton Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and close friends. Fr. Furtado was predeceased by his parents, Jesse R. And Mary (Lopes) Furtado and his brother, Peter R. Furtado. Born on June 5, 1947, Fr. Steve Furtado was a graduate of Espirito Santo Elementary School and the BMC Durfee High School both in Fall River. After High School Fr. Furtado attended St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT and St. John Seminary in Brighton, MA where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy as well a Masters of Divinity. Following seminary Fr. Furtado was ordained a Catholic Priest by the Most Reverend Daniel A. Cronin, former Bishop of Fall River, on May 12, 1973. After ordination Fr. Furtado was assigned to many parishes and ministries within the Diocese of Fall River. These assignments included: Parochial Vicar at the former Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Taunton, MA., Chaplain at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, MA, Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in New Bedford, MA, Pastor of the former Our Lady of Health Parish in Fall River, Chaplain at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, Parochial Vicar of Santo Christo Parish in Fall River, Ma. And Pastor of Holy Ghost Parish in Attleboro, MA. Father Furtado faithfully administered the Sacraments and Celebrated the Eucharist each day. Father Furtado is survived by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friends including, The Reverend Richard D. Breton, Jr.Fr. Furtado enjoyed traveling, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and cooking for his friends and family. Services and Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Richard D. Breton, Jr. at the convenience and privacy of the family.
