Evelyn M. Blackburn

Evelyn M. (Tobin) Blackburn, 99, of Norgate Road, Attleboro, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home in Norton where she had resided since March 2010. She was the wife of the late Robert Earl Blackburn to whom she was married on February 25, 1941 and entered into eternal rest on February 11, 1994. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts on April 25, 1915, she was the daughter of the late William H. Tobin, Sr. and Lillian B. (Anderson) Tobin. She was a lifelong resident of the City of Attleboro until moving to Norton four years ago. She was a graduate of Attleboro High School - Class of 1935 and later continued her education with curriculum at several college institutions. Mrs. Blackburn was employed by the City of Attleboro as the assistant director of the Attleboro Housing Authority for more than 35 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Hope Chapter #41 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Attleboro and was a member of the Highland Country Club in Attleboro. Mrs. Blackburn enjoyed painting, writing and her animals. She leaves a daughter: Roberta B. "Bonnie" Bristow and her husband, Howard Bristow, of North Attleboro and a grandson: Erik R. Bristow and his wife, Tara Bennett-Bristow, of Louisville, Kentucky and North Attleboro. She was the mother of the late Hollis Blackburn-Rounds and was the sister of the late William H. Tobin, Jr. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. A private graveside funeral service will be held at the Newell Burying Ground, South Attleboro with the Rev. Kelly K. Thibeault, Pastor of the First Congregational "Oldtown" Church, Old Post Road, North Attleboro, officiating. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Attleboro Elks Children's Fund, PO Box 7, North Attleboro, MA 02761.
