Eugene E. Godin

July 8, 1929 — March 29, 2022

Eugene "Gene" Ernest Godin, 92, of North Attleboro, MA passed away on March 29, 2022, at his home surrounded by all who loved him.
Eugene was born on July 8, 1929, in Mansfield, MA.  He was the son of the late Ernest Pierre Godin and the late Helen Burroughs Godin, and proud big brother to Alan Dennis Godin.  Affectionately known as "Gene" or "Geno-O" by family and friends, he spent many years of his childhood living at the family homestead in South Attleboro, MA.
After graduating from high school, he joined the Army National Guard to serve his country during the Korean War Conflict.  Gene proudly wore "3 stripes up and 3 stripes down" signifying him as a staff sergeant.
In addition to being a proud member of the Army National Guard, Gene had a passion for race car driving and spent many weekends traveling to Thompson, Ct, Epping, NH, and Seekonk Speedway.  Sunday family dinners weren't complete without stories of Grampy's beloved racing days.
Years later, Gene fulfilled a life-long dream and restored a 1936 Ford Phaeton, which he enjoyed with his wife, Lucille, for many years to come.
Gene was a hard-working man who gave 100% to all his efforts.  His first job was with W.H. Riley & Son where he worked for his father Ernest "Frenchie" Godin.  His jobs to follow were with Earl C. Foster & Son, and Chemical Testing, in New York.
He spent 70 years married to his love, Lucille Holst Godin, who predeceased him in June of 2020.  He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Godin Sawyer Roy, of North Attleboro, MA and Linda Godin Salveson and her husband, John Salveson, of Ft. Walton Beach, FL.  His four grandchildren, Tammie Sawyer Hall and her husband Bruce A. Hall, of North Attleboro; Todd Sawyer and his wife, Jennifer Sawyer, of Dracut, MA, Tiffany Sawyer of Virginia Beach, VA, and Joseph Cavanaugh in Oregon.  His six great grandchildren: Lia Hall and Sawyer Hall both of North Attleboro, and Peter Sawyer, Ethan Sawyer and Nicholas Sawyer of Dracut, MA and Kayleigh Cavanaugh.
Grampy "Gene" was loved beyond measure and will be missed terribly.  His family will hold him close to their hearts forever and live each day remembering that "it only costs .10 cents more to go first class."
