Eugene A. Anderson

April 27, 1937 — April 11, 2021

Eugene A. Anderson, 83, of Mansfield, MA passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.  He was the dear husband of the late Gertrude (Zimber) Anderson who passed away on November 6, 2014.
Gene, as he was known, was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 27, 1937.  He was the son of the late Herbert P. Anderson and the late Mary Margaret (Andrews) Anderson.  His sister, Jacqueline Anderson, predeceased him in childhood.  He was a graduate of Chelsea Vocational High School in New York City, NY and earned a bachelor's degree from the New York Institute of Technology while raising his family and later earned his MBA.  He forever remained proud of his Brooklyn roots, always reminiscing about his stickball games in the streets, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and his walks across the Brooklyn Bridge to attend his high school in Manhattan.
Gene was an electrical engineer for more than forty years for AT&T in New Jersey.  He started his career as a young draftsman for Western Electric at 222 Broadway in NYC and after earning his degree became a design engineer working for the Defense Activities Division, on projects involving world-wide communications and early-warning systems for the US government.  He later traveled extensively both domestically and internationally for AT&T designing and overseeing the installation of new electrical power stations.  He had a passion for his work and always spoke fondly of his experiences over his many years with the company.
Gene raised his family in Garden City, NY on a lively street with many families and the neighborhood kids often at the house.  He then moved with AT&T to Bernardsville, New Jersey, spending 20 years there and enjoying his new-found freedom with his wife and golden retriever during his empty-nesting years.  Over the years, he volunteered in his communities, coached his children's sports teams and served as President of the Kiwanis in Bernardsville, NJ.  Having grown up with summers at Lake Carmel, NY and then living on Long Island, he developed a love for fishing, and shared his passion with his kids and grandkids.  He then retired to Plymouth, MA where he worked on his golf game and enjoyed time with his new neighbors and friends.  He also spent time enjoying his love of westerns (Shane), musicals (Singing in the Rain), and classic movies (The African Queen).
Gene will be forever remembered by those that knew him for his kind, easy-going nature, bright smile, smooth dance moves, and infectious laugh - not to mention his many tricks and jokes that we all enjoyed.
He leaves four children: Donna Schole of Ridgefield, CT; Eric Anderson of Park City, Utah; Jeannine Heaney of New Canaan, CT; and Jacqueline Gallagher of North Attleboro, MA.  and his grandchildren: Anneke Schole; Olivia and Nadine Anderson; James, Katherine and Meredith Heaney and Sam and Kate Gallagher.
The family would like to thank the warm and wonderful staff at the Village at Willow Crossing, where Gene spent his most recent years.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, North Attleboro, MA. Burial will follow.
