Ethel June (Pierce) Somerby, 84, of Saugus, MA, passed away peacefully at Mount St. Rita Health Centre in Cumberland, RI on Saturday, May 19, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Eugene H. Somerby, to whom she was married on November 16, 1952. Born on November 15, 1933 in Lynn, MA, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Pierce and the late Alice (Stickney) Pierce Carpenter. Ethel lived most of her life in Saugus where she cherished her role as a homemaker to her family. A caring and vivacious woman, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother who truly loved her family more than anything in the world. She enjoyed dancing, especially ballroom, square dancing, and line dancing, she was an active member of the Saugus Senior Center. She loved the water and enjoyed spending time at her second home in Bradford, NH. In addition to her husband she leaves her beloved children: Sandra S. Saunders and her husband, Frederick Saunders, of North Attleborough, MA; and Diane E. Carolan and her husband, Robert Carolan Jr., of Saugus, MA. She was the adoring grandmother of William Saunders of Canton, MA, Diane Osborne (Andrew) of North Attleborough, and David Saunders (Elisa) of Concord NH. She was the proud great-grandmother of Alexander Saunders, Ella Saunders, Christopher Saunders, Nicholas Saunders, Lyra Osborne, Enoch Osborne, Bennett Saunders, and Audrey Saunders. Ethel was the dear sister of Hazel Sample and her husband, Roy Sample, of North Reading, MA, and Lawrence Pierce of CT, and his late wife, Norma. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Alice Staniunas of Florida. She was the sister of the late Harry Carpenter, and leaves several nieces. A Memorial Service will be held at the Second Congregational Church, 50 Park Street, Attleboro, MA, on June 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Burial will be private.
