Estelle Irene (Gelinas) Coleman, 83, of Attleboro, MA passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Carroll Bennett Coleman. Loving mother of 6 children
Born in Manchester, New Hampshire on March 13, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Waldon O. and Gabrielle Gelinas. Raised and educated in Manchester, NH she was a graduate of Manchester High School. She later attended Northeastern University where she studied early childhood development. In 1971 she co-founded Our Place To Grow, a day care center on Wyoming Street in Roxbury, MA. She was the Director of a children's daycare center in Winston Salem, NC. Estelle lived and worked in many states in her working career, volunteering and building community around her everywhere she lived.
One of her passions was as a political activist at the Woman's Peace Encampment in Romulus, New York 1983-2006. Her work inculdes the Peace Encampment Herstory Project as a Historian/Archivist. This is a fully-volunteer effort to collect and preserve the oral herstories, videos, and photographs of the Women's Encampment for a Future of Peace and Justice.
She greatly enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking, bird watching, gardening and all nature. She hiked a large sections of the Appalachian Trail, from Vermont to Tennessee, and had many wonderful trips camping with family and friends.
Estelle was the proprietor of Crone Craft Creations where she created jewelry and many beaded art pieces. Her art work has been displayed in the Hynes Boston Convention Center, City Heart Art show 2013. Her art work includes many different mediums, quilting, painting, Zen doodles, Fabric art pictures, extreme recycle art, economical art, thread art pictures, and landscapes, costumes and more.
She leaves her 6 children: Michelle R. Coleman-Dion and her Husband Edward Dion, of Easton, MA; Marc A. Coleman and his wife Diana Coleman, of Kansas City, KS; Celine A Spader and her husband, Howard P. Spader Jr, of Attleboro, MA; Carl Coleman of Attleboro, MA; Dr. Matthew A. Coleman and his wife Sha Coleman, of Oakland, CA; and Leonard Coleman, of Kansas City KS; her grandchildren Melissa C. Hamrick; Nathan A. Coleman, Josiah M. Coleman, Michelle B. Murray, David M. Coleman, Rachael L. Spader, and Kira A. Coleman; her great grandchildren: Finley R. Coleman, Darlene E. Palermo, Daniel E. Murray, Celine E. Murray and Chloe R. Murray; a great great grandchild Zenith E Palermo; her siblings: Madeline LaFlamme of Henniker NH; Claudette Stanton of Manchester, NH; and Lionel Gelinas, of Niantic, Conn.; many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
She was the sister of the late Lori Plichta, of Manchester, NH, and Charles Gelinas of Reston, VA.
