Ernest Armand Paradis, 87, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Vivian Alice (St. Germain) Paradis, to whom he was married on October 11, 1952.
Born on December 21, 1930 in Attleboro, he was the son of the late Delphis J.B. Paradis and the late Aurore A. (Rene) Paradis.
A lifelong resident of Attleboro, he graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Central Falls, RI, Class of 1949.
Ernest proudly joined the United States Navy in 1951, having attended Hospital Corps School in Bethesda, MD before serving at the Naval Hospital in Newport, RI. He attended Navy Psychiatric School in Philadelphia, PA, served at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital upon graduation, was later assigned to the United States Marine Corps in March 1953, and attended boot camp at Fort Lejeune, NC. Ernest was then transferred to the 3rd Marine Division and was stationed in Japan from 1953 until 1954, returning to his assignment in Twenty Nine Palms, CA, before being honorably discharged in March 1955 as a Naval Hospital Corpsman Second Class.
Ernest became the Acting Postmaster of the Dodgeville, MA, Post Office in May 1955, and became the permanent Postmaster there in September 1956, until being reassigned to the Attleboro Post Office in 1964 as the Mail Supervisor. He served as the Acting Postmaster in Attleboro from November 1967 until November 1968, returning to Supervisor assignment, and then promoted to Supervisor of Postal Operations in Attleboro until his retirement in December 1985.
A man of faith, devotion, and commitment to his country and community, Ernest was a communicant of the former St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Attleboro. He was actively involved in the PTA while his children were in school, including having served as the Vice-President and President of the Finberg Elementary School PTA, and the President of the Bishop Feehan PTA. Ernest volunteered his time as the Assistant Coach of the Bishop Feehan Hockey Team and as the President of the Bristol County Hockey Association. He was a 4H Leader and a member of the Rhode Island Figure Skating Club.
In addition to his dearest wife, Vivian Alice, Ernest leaves his cherished children: Diane Duffey and her husband, Steven, of Wrentham, MA, and their children: Jennifer, Michael, and Christine; Pamela Walkowiak and her husband, Steven, of Olivebridge, NY, and their children: Robert and Stephanie; Kenneth Paradis and his wife, Diane, of Auburn, MA, and their children: Eric and Victoria; Michael Paradis and his wife, Marie, of Poughkeepsie, NY, and their children: Jason, Rachel, and Samantha; and Carol Riordan and her husband, James Riordan, of Martinez, GA, and their children: Amy and James. He was the proud great-grandfather of Tyler, Sara, Riley, and Harper. Ernest was the dear brother of Anna St. Pierre of Central Falls, RI, and was predeceased by his siblings: Yvonne G. Naylor, Doris Johnson, Rita LaFerriere, Henri Paradis, Joseph Paradis, Lorraine Dorothy, Irene Fontaine, Lucie Cloutier, Delphis Paradis, Arthur Paradis, Lionel Paradis, and Oliver Paradis.
Friends and family are cordially invited to honor and remember Ernest by gathering for a Visitation with Veterans Honors on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a funeral service at 4:00 p.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Graveside Services with full Military Honors on Monday, December 24, at 9:00 a.m. in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Attleboro, MA.
