Eric Frederick Matthews, 94, of North Attleboro, formerly of Addison, Maine, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. He was the husband of the late Dorothy C. (Hackett) Matthews, who passed away on January 15, 2001. Born in Newfoundland, Canada on September 5, 1919, he was the son of the late Edward and Amelia (Dunford) Matthews. Mr. Matthews was a graduate of East Providence High School, Class of 1936. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a highly decorated technician third grade of the Battery A 230th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. Eric was the owner/operator of Countryside Mobile Homes in Maine from 1971 to 2004. He also was a self-employed lobsterman. Mr. Matthews loved fishing and hunting in the great outdoors. An avid woodsman, he would travel anywhere from Alaska to Wyoming and Canada to hunt. Eric was a proud member of the "NRA" National Rifle Association. He is survived by his daughter: Linda A. McCullen and her husband, Kenneth L. McCullen of North Attleboro; two grandchildren: Emily M. and Ashley M. McCullen, both of North Attleboro; and dear friends: Charlene and Douglas Reynolds of Addison, Maine. Mr. Matthews was the father of the late Donald Eric Matthews, Helen Vastano, and John E. Matthews and the grandfather of the late Michelle L. McCullen. Burial with full military honors in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, will be private.
