Enrique "Eric" Lopes, 34, of State Street, Attleboro, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro where he had been a resident for the past two weeks. He was the husband of Heather L. (Demers) Lopes to whom he was married on August 5, 2007. Born in Cape Verde, the Azores on March 10, 1978, he was a son of Henrique Lopes of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and the late Fatima (Baptista) Lopes. He resided in Attleboro for the past year and was a former longtime resident of New Bedford where he was a 1996 graduate of New Bedford High School where he excelled on the school track team. Until his illness in August 2008, he was employed as a machine operator for Stillwater Fasteners in New Bedford. He attended Living Waters Church in North Attleboro. Mr. Lopes treasured every moment spent in the company of his young children. He enjoyed saltwater fishing and playing and watching basketball. In addition to his wife of almost five years and his father, he leaves four children: Linsey Lopes of Freetown; Emmanuel E. Lopes, Mayson E. Lopes and Brayden D. Lopes all at home in Attleboro; a stepson: Matthew Kiernan at home in Attleboro; his siblings: Jean Lopes of New Bedford; Jean Lopes of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; Isabelle Lopes of New Bedford; Patrick Lopes of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; Nayef Lopes in Florida; Kelly Lopes of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Humberto Lopes, Jr. of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; his maternal grandmother: Clarinda Neves of New Bedford; several aunts and uncles including Nicole Neves of New Bedford; his mother-in-law: Kathleen A. (Guimond) Demers, wife of the late Daniel A. F. Demers who died in 2008, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. A prayer service will be offered during visitation. Burial will be private in St. John's Cemetery, Attleboro. Children's room available during visitation.
