Elizabeth Meakin Gebhard, wife of the late Peter T.E. Gebhard, Jr., daughter of Eric N. Meakin and Elsie K. Meakin, died peacefully on May 24 in her 93rd year. Born in Boston, brought up in Danvers, MA, she attended McGill University in Montreal, Bradford Junior College, and Barrington College. She kept her English heritage alive through active contacts with multiple cousins in Leicester, England and through her late brother Thomas K. Meakin and his wife, Judith. An avid golfer, she had memberships and was Women's Golfing Champion at the East Aurora Country Club (NY) and the Acoaxet Club (MA). She was also a long-standing member of the Mid Ocean Club (Bermuda). She was a member of the Barrington Women's Garden Club and the Handicraft Club of Providence. She maintained residences in Westport Harbor, MA, and lately at Sakonnet Bay Manor, Tiverton, RI, having moved from Tucker's Town, Bermuda, Barrington, RI, and East Aurora, NY. In Bermuda, she volunteered at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital as a "Pink Lady" and was presented to the Queen of England for her meritorious service. While in Barrington, she served a decade as a school librarian at The Gordon School, East Providence, RI. She is survived by her three children: Peter T. Gebhard and wife Sara Gebhard; Margaret Ellen Gebhard and husband Donald Perkins; and Thomas E. Gebhard and wife, Julie Gebhard. She had nine grandchildren: Samuel Holland and his wife, Jessica Sapsis; Elizabeth Holland; John Holland and his wife, Rebecca Burday: William and John Gebhard; Charlotte and Frances Gebhard; and William and Katherine Sweetser.A Memorial Service will be held in her honor at St. Andrews by the Sea, in Little Compton, RI, on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
