Elizabeth Ann Burns

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann (Kelly) Burns, 74, of Oakhill Avenue, Attleboro; formerly of Rudon Court, North Attleboro, died on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John "Jack" Francis Burns, Jr. to whom she was married on June 29, 1957 and who died on February 23, 2009. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on January 7, 1938, Mrs. Burns was a daughter of the late James H. Kelly, Sr. and Katherine (McDermott) Kelly. She was raised and educated in the City of Pawtucket where she resided until moving to North Attleboro in 1961. Mrs. Burns was employed by the former Donnelly Manufacturing Company in North Attleboro for many years prior to working at the former Rosecraft Manufacturing in North Attleboro for a few years. She retired from Raschel's Clothing Store in Foxboro where she worked as a stocking and inventory clerk and customer service representative. She will be lovingly remembered for being an ardent sports enthusiast for all of the local professional teams - Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins. Her favorite pastimes included being a "mall walker" at the Emerald Square Mall in North Attleboro, playing bingo at the North Attleboro Elks Lodge years ago but in recent years it has been the memories created with her cherished grandchildren that were most important. She leaves a son: Michael J. Burns and his wife, Annmarie (O'Neil) Burns, of Attleboro; Kelly A. Maloney and her husband, John M. Maloney III, of North Attleboro and Kimberly A. Vaillancourt and her husband, Arthur A. Vaillancourt, Jr., of Attleboro; eight grandchildren: Brittany Burns of Framingham; Brock Burns and Brent Burns both of Attleboro; Sean Maloney and Mac Maloney of North Attleboro and Dylan Vaillancourt, Drew Vaillancourt and Luke Vaillancourt all of Attleboro; a sister: Rosemary Dolan of Lincoln, Rhode Island and several extended family members and friends. She was the sister of the late James H. Kelly, Jr. and Katherine "Pat" Belmont. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a ride to visitation may simply call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Kelly Thibeault, Pastor of the First Congregational "Oldtown" Church, Old Post Road, North Attleboro, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro. Children's room available during visitation and funeral services. Following cemetery committal services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Mrs. Burns may be made to the Sturdy Memorial Foundation, Inc., PO Box 2963, Attleboro, MA 02703 to benefit the oncology department - an organization and department close to the family's heart.
