Eleanor Whitney Ogden

February 6, 1926 — November 9, 2018

Eleanor Whitney Ogden, 92, of Attleboro, MA, formerly of Warren, RI, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2018 at her home with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late A. Clinton Ogden Jr. who passed away on May 8, 2005.

Born on February 6, 1926 in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Howard B. and Edith Vilroy (Sisson) Whitney.

Eleanor was a graduate of Lincoln School, Providence, RI, Class of 1943, and Bradford Junior College, Bradford, MA, Class of 1945. She resided in Seekonk, MA for twenty-three years before moving to Touisset in Warren in 1981, where she lived for twenty-four years until her husband's passing.

Eleanor and Clinton were married for fifty-six years and traveled extensively together throughout the United States, abroad, and throughout the Caribbean, enjoying new experiences and new friends.  After Clinton's death, she continued to travel each year with her daughters.

A caring, giving, and active woman, she was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Pawtucket, the Booster Club, and was a former member of the Women's Guild and Golden Circle.  She was a member of the Bradford College Alumni Association; Blackstone Valley Historical Society; Daughters of the American Revolution; Beacon Pole Chapter, Pawtucket; Save the Bay; the former Memorial Hospital Corporation; Nature Conservancy; the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Audubon Societies; and a faithful member since 1961 of the Nabisco Club 29R, which was the company Clinton worked for thirty-eight years.  While living in Warren, Eleanor was a volunteer for Blithewold in Bristol, RI for several years, and then volunteered for many years in the Central Falls School District, and later, with her daughter, Deborah, in child care.  Eleanor was a member of the Earnest Workers at Seekonk Congregational Church

Eleanor leaves her loving children: Jeffrey D. Ogden and his wife, Lucille, of Coventry, RI; Deborah W. Zakowski and her husband, Michael, of Seekonk, RI; and Robin L. Howarth and her husband, George, of Attleboro, MA. She was the proud grandmother of Brian and Kyle Ogden, Jessica L. Zakowski, Dean W. Howarth, and Ashley F. Niland, and the adoring great-grandmother of Mason George Niland, McKenna Hayden Niland, and Isaac Clinton Howarth, Justin Sylas Howarth, as well as Brayden and Faith Ogden.  . Eleanor was the dear sister of Frances H. Manter of South Carolina.

Friends and family are cordially invited to honor and remember Eleanor by gathering for a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 10:15 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the "Commonwealth Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.

Burial services will be privately held, at which time Eleanor will be laid to rest alongside her dear late husband, Clinton.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in Eleanor's name to either the A. Clinton Ogden Jr. Memorial Garden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 50 Park Place, Pawtucket, RI 02860, or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 416 Crew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 would be deeply appreciated.
