Eleanor R. (LaPorte) Coffey, 95, of Plymouth, MA, formerly of North Attleboro, MA died on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Richard "Dick" G. Coffey, Sr. to whom she was married to on February 5, 1947, and who died on September 13, 2020.
Born in North Attleboro, MA on June 1, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Felix K. LaPorte and the late Hannah A. (Schmeckel) LaPorte. She was raised and educated in her native community of North Attleboro where she resided until moving to Plymouth in 1992. Eleanor moved to the Syracuse area in 2020.
Eleanor will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated and devoted homemaker to her family. She worked a variety of part time jobs from office work to a school crossing guard. She volunteered at Sturdy Hospital, area food banks and parent-teacher organizations. Eleanor was an active member of the First Baptist Church of North Attleboro serving on many committees. She enjoyed a long retirement with her husband and was always the epitome of a gracious hostess and a woman with flare and grace. She and Dick enjoyed exploring the Cape and making friends along the way.
Most of all, Eleanor cherished her grandchildren hosting holiday gatherings and vacations. She loved their company and never missed sending a holiday card. She attended their sporting events, dance, and music recitals with pride.
She leaves three children: Richard G. Coffey, Jr. and his wife, Jeralyn (Letourneau) Coffey, of Mansfield; Jay A. Coffey and his wife, Penny (Fitch) Coffey of Wareham and Neal Scott Coffey (Lisa Ryan) of Cazenovia, New York; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Robert LaPorte, Howard LaPorte, Marion Blanchard, Marjorie Metz Falk, and Lillian Foley.
Private visitation and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, Attleboro Falls, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to any non-profit food bank.
