Eleanor "Ellie" G. Habershaw

May 6, 1936 — April 7, 2023

Eleanor "Ellie" G. (Bates) Habershaw, 86, of Attleboro, MA, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Friday, April 7, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Lawrence "Larry" Habershaw to whom she was married on September 15, 1956.
"To the most incredible Mom from her very loving and appreciative daughter, you will always be "The Wind Beneath My Wings", Momma" ...
Eleanor grew up in rural Massachusetts in a loving home. She lost her father at the early age of 8 and helped raise her two younger sisters through their teenage years. She lived in a small home with only a single light bulb, attended a one room schoolhouse through grade 6, and spent many summers with her sisters and cousins pumping the water needed from the well and guarding the outhouse for each other.
Eleanor was a hardworking and talented student. She graduated from Attleboro High School in 1956. She went on to work at a local insurance agency where she thrived and was able to financially support her husband's attendance to university.
Meeting Lawrence at the age of 14, Ellie and Larry spend 67 years as a married couple and 71 years in total together as partners in love, life, family, and work. They enjoyed traveling together whenever they could. Both knew the struggles of poverty and shared dreams of owning their own business together. They achieved that dream successfully. Never selfish, often times their endeavors welcomed opportunity to close friends and family as well.
In 1968 and 1972 Eleanor and Lawrence took on one of the most selfless and gracious acts anyone could take on by adopting two children. There are no words any child could return to express enough gratitude for the gifts or unconditional love given. Eleanor clearly wanted to raise her children, giving them opportunities, she was never afforded, traveling with them, and teaching them family values. There is no question she loved both children.
She was employed at the family business she owned with her husband in Attleboro where she served as the company clerk and treasurer and worked tirelessly alongside her husband building the successful business until it was sold in 2016.
Ellie and Larry were known as the epitome of a "team" and donated generously to numerous community causes and particularly their alma mater, Attleboro High School.
Eleanor was a talented cook, tireless worker, selfless mother, devoted sister, and beloved grandmother and aunt. She lit up every room she entered and made even those she met incidentally feel special.
She leaves behind many people who loved her back so much including her husband Lawrence, her two children: Karen and Kevin, two grandchildren: her sister: Carolyn, several beloved friends, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. She was the sister of the late Marilyn De Olive and greatly missed her treasured late schnauzer, "Bucko".
We would like to thank all of you for your kind thoughts and caring words at this time.
