Elaine Marie (Czyszczon) Kwasniewski, 78, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on June 8, 1946, in Hammond, Indiana, Elaine lived a rich and beautiful life filled with joy, adventure, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
A proud graduate of T.F. North High School, Class of ’64, in Calumet City, Illinois, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics from Southern Illinois University, embarking on a lifelong journey as an educator.
Elaine was a passionate teacher with an extraordinary gift for inspiring young minds. She dedicated three decades to Catholic schools in Los Angeles and San Diego Counties, California, where she served as both a school librarian and a middle school math teacher. Her impact on generations of students and colleagues was immeasurable; her warmth, wisdom, and encouragement touched countless lives.
For 57 wonderful years, Elaine shared a wonderful marriage with her devoted husband, William “Bill” Kwasniewski. Together, they built a life rich in love, laughter, and adventure—embracing retirement by traveling the world, often aboard Viking Cruises, and savoring countless serene days on the beaches of Hawaii.
Among their many journeys, Elaine especially cherished a recent adventure to England and Scotland.
Elaine was a loving mother to her son: Craig Kwasniewski of San Clemente, California and her daughter: Melanie (Kwasniewski) Atwood of North Attleborough, Massachusetts. Her four adored grandchildren — William, Megan, Kelsey, and Liam — were the light of her life, and she embraced every opportunity to shower them with affection, wisdom, and unforgettable memories. She also found great joy in welcoming her son-in-law, Michael Atwood, and daughter-in-law, Michele (Bock) Kwasniewski, into her heart as family.
Elaine is also lovingly remembered by her brother: Robert Czyszczon, and his wife, Sharon, of Fairhope, Alabama.
She is now reunited in eternal peace with her late parents, Peter and Bernice Czyszczon.
A woman of boundless energy and grace, Elaine was known for her incredible culinary talents and impeccable sense of style. She was the consummate hostess, effortlessly creating warm and welcoming gatherings for family and friends and refining her skills during cherished summers at the Culinary Institute of America in New York.
Her days were filled with the things she loved most: shopping trips with Melanie, Las Vegas March Madness adventures with Bill, Craig, Michele, and Liam, and peaceful evenings with a glass of wine in hand, surrounded by those she loved around the fire pit.
Elaine’s kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy is one of love, compassion, and joyful memories that will be forever treasured.
