Edwin H. Hurley Jr.

Edwin H. Hurley Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2021, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA, after a brief illness.
Born on September 14, 1933, in Holyoke, MA, he was the beloved son of the late Edwin H. Hurley Sr. and Eileen (Mulvihill) Hurley.
Ed treasured time spent with his family and was the devoted husband of Carol (Daly) Hurley who became the love of his life in 1950.  He is also survived by his son Ed and his wife, Sue, of North Attleboro, MA; and his daughter, Cathy Nally of Boston, MA. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law John Nally.  "Bib" was the loving grandfather to Patrick Hurley and his wife, Grace; Caitlin Gibbs and her husband, Jon; Matt Hurley and his wife, Chelsea; Dan Nally; and Betsy McKenna and her husband, Dan.  Ed also was blessed with the unconditional love of three great grandsons: Tyler and Bryce Gibbs, and Beau Hurley.  He looked forward to welcoming his first great-granddaughter in February.  Ed shared a lifetime of love with his sisters: Mary Eileen Mealey and Anne Marie Sullivan and her husband, Michael; and many nieces and nephews.
While at Holyoke High School, "Eddie" was a standout athlete in basketball and baseball, leading the Purple Knights to a state baseball championship in 1950.  He took his baseball talents to the University of Notre Dame where he was a three-year starter at second base.  In his senior year he helped lead the Fighting Irish to their first ever College World Series appearance at the famed Rosenblatt Stadium.  His four years in South Bend resulted in a life-long passion for all things Notre Dame, which was passed down to future generations.  Ed and Carol returned often to Notre Dame for football weekends.  The only thing he loved more than his alma mater were his family and friends.
Ed was an employee of New England Telephone for more than 30 years, serving as a regional sales manager.  Ed and Carol moved to Wilbraham in 1978 where he became active in the community and developed new friendships, many as a long-time member of the Country Club of Wilbraham.  In recent years, they relocated to Foxboro to be closer to, and enjoy, family.  Ed loved spending time with family at the beach and especially Cape Cod.  In his retirement, he enjoyed spending winters in Amelia Island, FL and welcoming family and friends to their paradise.

With strict adherence to applicable Covid-19 health precautions, including social distancing and the use of facemasks, family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Transfiguration of the Lord Parish at St. Mary Church, 14 Park Street, North Attleboro, MA.
Private burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, North Attleboro, MA.
