Edward Leo Slattery, Jr., 87, of Hodges Street, Attleboro, died on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a period of declining health. He was the husband of Yvonne B. (Biosse) Slattery to whom he was married on October 22, 1960. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on April 29, 1925, he was a son of the late Edward L. Slattery, Sr. and Maude (Colby) Slattery. Raised and educated in his native city of Attleboro, Mr. Slattery resided in Attleboro his entire life with the exception of years serving his country and 15 years he resided in North Attleboro. He proudly served his country by serving with the United States Navy from his enlistment on April 28, 1943 until his honorable discharge in March 1946. For his World War II service, Mr. Slattery received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Ribbon and the American Theatre Ribbon with two stars. Mr. Slattery was employed as a stone mason for the City of Attleboro for 27 years prior to his retirement. Some of his most notable work included the original animal cages, Siddall Memorial Bubbler and the Ray Cunniff Bandstand all at Capron Park in Attleboro; work at the Attleboro Animal Shelter and at the Luther Dam Pump Building both in Attleboro. He treasured the times spent fresh water fishing with his son and was a devoted Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. In addition to his wife of 51 years, he leaves a son: William Edward Slattery of Attleboro and several extended family members and dear friends. He was the brother of the late Eleanor Rutuolo. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation prior to the Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, 105 Stanley Street (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, turn right onto Stanley Street in ½ mile and travel to end of Stanley Street), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, 105 Stanley Street (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, turn right onto Stanley Street in ½ mile and travel to end of Stanley Street), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Thomas A. Frechette, Pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Towne Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Please do not send flowers.
