Edward L. Mottau, 82, of Greenwich Street, South Attleboro, died unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, December 6, 2012. He was the husband of Marie A. (Marotto) Mottau to whom he was married on February 6, 1954 at St. Michael's Church in Providence, Rhode Island. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 30, 1930, he was a son of the late Edward J. and Sarah (Lester) Mottau. He was raised and educated in Attleboro where he was a 1949 graduate of Attleboro High School. He resided in the Attleboro community for more than 56 years. Mr. Mottau was employed in the finance/investment sector having been employed by the IOF - the Independent Order of Foresters and Public Finance for many years prior to his retirement. He was a charter member of the South Attleboro Lions Club and was a communicant of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, South Attleboro. An avid New England sports fan, he particularly liked the Boston Red Sox. As a true sportsman, he was a coach and manager for the South Attleboro Little League and for community football teams. His favorite hobby and pastime was, without doubt, horseracing. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he leaves two sons: Stephen Mottau and his companion, Gail Russell, of West Warwick, Rhode Island and Kenneth Mottau and his wife, Maureen, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; four grandchildren: Adrienne, Michael, Erica and Kathryn; a great grandchild: Connor and several extended family members and friends.
