Edward Allen Marvelle, Sr.

Edward Allen Marvelle, Sr., 84, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2015. He was the husband of the late Yvonne C. Marvelle who died in 2004, and the former husband of Rosie Rodes of Sarasota, FL. Born on February 15, 1931 in Wareham, MA, he was a son of the late Clyde S. Marvelle and Geraldine (Fountain) Marvelle. Prior to moving to Monroe, NC one year ago, he divided his time between Attleboro, MA and Sarasota, FL. He was a graduate of Mansfield High School, and then continued his education, receiving his Associate Degree. Mr. Marvelle was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, having served our country during the Korean War. He was assigned to the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, and earned the rank of Corporal before being Honorably Discharged from service. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, one Overseas Bar, a Combat Infantry Badge, and the National Defense Service Medal. Following completion of his military service, Mr. Marvelle was employed by Swank, Inc. of Taunton, MA from 1955 until 1989 as an Inventory Control Analyst. He was a member of the Attleboro American Legion Post #312 and enjoyed working around his home, maintaining his lawn and performing yard work, and time spent in Cape Cod, particularly Dennisport and Salt Air Village. A car enthusiast, he delighted in car watching and the pride of owning his 1996 Lincoln Town Car. He leaves his cherished son, Edward Allen Marvelle, Jr., and his wife Jane F. (Vargas) Marvelle of Monroe, NC; and his beloved and treasured grandchildren: Tyla Jean Marvelle and Shyana Rachael Marvelle. He was the brother of the late Richard, Ralph, Clyde, Howard, John and Sheldon Marvelle, and Gerry (Marvelle) Blanchette. Mr. Marvelle especially valued his meaningful relationship with Claire R. Allen, who passed away at age 99 years old, and was like a mother to him and grandmother to his son, Edward. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Visitation with Veterans Honors on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
