The Honorable Edward A. Lee, 92, of Attleboro, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013. He was the husband of Marie T. (Fisher) Lee, his wife of 61 years. Born in Attleboro on Jan. 27, 1921, Judge Lee was the son of Irish immigrants, Patrick F. and Bridget A. (Doohan) Lee of Attleboro. He was educated in Attleboro public schools, and earned his bachelor's degree from Providence College in 1942. During World War II he was in the 315th Antiaircraft Division of Simpson's 9th Army, serving in the European theater and then attended the Army's Shrivenham American University. He also played second base professionally for a minor-league affiliate of the Boston Braves. After the war he earned his law degree from Georgetown University in 1950. Ed served as presiding justice of the 4th District Court in Attleboro for nearly a quarter-century, from 1957 to 1981; the governor appointed him at the age of 36, making him the youngest district court judge. He also served on the Appellate Division and Superior Court benches. Ed was on the Attleboro Public Library Board of Trustees for 45 years, serving as its president from 1979 to 2012. He also served on the Attleboro City Council and was involved in a number of legal organizations. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind three daughters: Marie Lee of Boston, Kathryn Lee of Centreville, Del., and Jeanne (Lee) Hines of York, Maine; a brother, James Lee; a sister, Virginia (Lee) Borden; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Anne M. Lee Nesi. He was the brother of the late William F. Lee and John P. Lee. A wake will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., North Attleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Parish, 105 Stanley St., North Attleboro.
