Edward Wayne Hazen, 76, of North Attleboro, MA passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the beloved husband of Debra Lee Hazen to whom he was married on June 28, 1969.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey on December 23, 1946, he was the eldest son of the late Edward Albert Hazen and the late Maxine (Thomas) Hazen. He was raised and educated in Westwood, New Jersey and was a member of Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society and a graduate of Rutgers University having earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering.
Mr. Hazen was employed as an electrical engineer for Hewlett Packard for many years prior to his retirement. Ed spent his career starting as an engineer and then leading teams as an engineering manager. He ended his career as an expert in compliance engineering.
Ed met the love of his life, Debra, when they were very young and their love and respect for each other grew from those early days throughout their lives. They got married while Ed was still in college and Debra had just graduated high school. Their beautiful marriage lasted just short of 54 years.
He was a longtime member of Second Congregational Church in Attleboro where he was a part of the church basketball team many years ago.
Ed loved sports and he enjoyed that in many ways. He played rugby in college and reminisced of those games. Ed treasured his one and only grandchild, Evan Tetreault, and enjoyed watching him play baseball as he sat behind home plate to see his grandson pitch. He also enjoyed watching Evan play hockey. As an avid new England Patriots fan, he and his son, Michael, enjoyed many years viewing games together at Gillette Stadium and watching the many playoff games along the way. His family lovingly recalls Ed as being the "grill master" and he loved cooking for family and friends. When Ed wasn't grilling, he and Deb would be on the front porch during the day saying hi to all the neighbors and enjoying their time relaxing. His warm welcome and easy smile inspired neighbors to join him for an afternoon cocktail and chat.
In addition to his wife of almost 54 years, he leaves his children: Michael Edward Hazen and his wife, Amy L. Hazen, and Tara J. Tetreault and her husband, Richard J. Tetreault, all of Massachusetts; his beloved grandson: Evan Tetreault; his siblings: Thomas Hazen in Indiana and Herbert Hazen in New Jersey and several nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends.
