Edward "Ed" Elmer Courbron, 82, of North Attleboro, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of May Heather (Mayer) Courbron, to whom he was married on July 23, 1983.Born on June 25, 1933 in Rochester, NH, he was the son of the late Armand Joseph Courbron and Yvonne Beatrice (Flanagan) Courbron. Ed and his family moved to Norton when he was two years old. He was educated in the Norton, MA, public schools graduated from Norton High School Class of 1952, where he was Captain of the baseball and basketball teams. He enjoyed attending all of his class reunions. Ed proudly and honorably served our country in the United State Army from 1953 to 1955 in the Korean War. He was attached to the 987FA-BN Artillery, 8th Army, 10th Ed received the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was in the Army Reserve from 1955 to 1961. He worked for fifty years at the former Sisalkraft Paper Co., St. Regis Paper, and Fortifiber Corp in Attleboro, MA, before retiring. Ed was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Norton, MA for twenty-three years, and where he served as an altar boy for three years. He was also a parishioner of the former St. Joseph Church in Attleboro for twenty-seven years, where he served as the Director of the Knights of the Altar for eight years and received the Marion Medal in 1972. Since moving to North Attleboro in 1983, Edward was a communicant of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church there.A man of diverse interests, for more than thirty years he enjoyed traveling to polka dancing weekends in New York, and attending concerts of all venues of music and Broadway plays, especially musicals. He was an avid bowler and was the Massachusetts State Senior Champion in 2004. Until recently, Ed was playing in two Senior League bowling teams.Always a sports enthusiast, he cheered for the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. He had an interest in all kinds of sports, and was a familiar face at all the Bishop Feehan High School games. He played softball, as shortstop, for St. Regis Paper Co. for eleven years, and one year won the Massachusetts State Championship. He was League Director for the Attleboro Area CYO basketball team for eighteen years, and coached the CYO Junior and Senior basketball teams for the former St. Joseph's Church in Attleboro from 1959-1981. Edward coached the 7th grade girls' basketball team at St. Mary Sacred Heart School, North Attleboro, in 1983. He was an American Softball Association umpire member for thirty-one years in Southeastern Massachusetts for boys and girls high school and college softball games, as well as for men's, women's, and youth softball leagues. He also umpired area Babe Ruth baseball leagues. Ed assisted his wife in volunteering their time to the American Cancer Society. He was an avid reader of history, loved attending grandparents' days, recitals, school plays, science fairs, gymnastic competitions, and a multitude of sporting events in which his grandchildren participated. He took great pride in caring for his yard and home.He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union, the American Bowling Congress, and the American Softball Association.He is survived by his loving wife, May, and leaves his five cherished children: Jacqueline C. (Courbron) Lemonde, and her husband, Ronald Lemonde, of Easley, SC; Donald T. Courbron, and his wife, Robin M. (Boudreau) Courbron of Rehoboth, MA; Lisa M. Miconi, and her husband, John P. Certuse of North Attleboro, MA; Joseph D. Miconi and his wife, Charlene M. (Burk) Miconi, of North Attleboro, MA; and Kerri L. (Miconi) Payne and her husband, Stephen M. Payne, of Barrington, RI. Ed was the adoring grandfather of Dareth DiTusa of Greene, RI; Alec and Max Certuse, Griffin, Renee, Ashley, and Deanna Miconi, all of North Attleboro, MA; Gwen and Erin Payne of Barrington, RI; Emily Varadian of North Attleboro, MA; and Nicholas and Carl Varadian of Norwood, MA. He was the brother of Joan (Courbron) Todd, and her husband, George Todd, of Crossville, TN; and Patricia (Courbron) Moskal, and her husband, John Moskal, of Taunton, MA. Ed is survived by members of the George Flanagan families; many nieces and nephews, his extended family, and many friends. He was the brother of the late Harriet (Courbron) Wambolt and her late husband, Arthur Wambolt. He was the son-in-law of the late Oscar L.
