Ed Cavallari

May 29, 1953 — September 16, 2024

Edward “Ed” A. Cavallari, 71, of Plainville, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving and devoted family on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Pond Home in Wrentham, MA. He was the beloved husband of Suzanne “Sue” (Gariepy) Cavallari. They were happily married for 32 years.

Born in Northampton, MA, on May 29, 1953, he was the son of the late Edward F. Cavallari and Josephine F. (Serio) Cavallari.

Ed grew up in Northampton, with his parents and younger sister. His family owned Serio’s Market and Serio’s Pharmacy in the heart of his hometown. He enjoyed Sundays and holidays at his Nana’s house and trips to Norwich Lake with aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Ed always enjoyed the outdoors: hunting and fishing with his dad and friends, skiing, boating and metal detecting for historic artifacts. Throughout his life, he enjoyed going on vacations to Cape Cod with family and to his cozy cabin in upstate New York.

Ed earned a master’s degree in Hospital Pharmacy from Northeastern University, in 1980. He was Director of Pharmacy at Wrentham Developmental Center (WDC) from 1976 until 1993. WDC is where he met his wife, Sue. Ed was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 1994, resulting in renal failure. This led to the realization that Ed and Sue were a perfect match in more ways than one. In November 2005, Sue donated a kidney to Ed, ultimately saving his life.

Ed retired as Asst. Director for Pharmacy Services for the Commonwealth of Mass in 2015. During his retirement, Ed enjoyed gardening, fishing, and going on nature walks with his family. Ed became skilled at nature and wildlife photography. He even has a website portfolio, https://www.edwardcavallariphoto.com/ . Before moving to Pond Home, Ed was learning the art of wood turning and made handmade wooden bowls and figurines for friends and family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his cherished daughter, Rebecca Cavallari from Plainville, MA, and his loyal fury companion, Cody. He is also survived by many extended family and friends. He was the devoted big brother of the late Christina “Chris” Cavallari.
