E. Myrtle McCaughey, 90 Retired Assistant City Clerk E. Myrtle McCaughey, 90, of West Street, Attleboro, died peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the wife of the late Johnston G. McCaughey to whom she was married on April 3, 1943 and who died on October 8, 1967. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on October 7, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Harley and Ethel (Arnold) Mowry. She was raised and educated in Pawtucket where she was a 1939 graduate of Pawtucket High School. Mrs. McCaughey was employed in the College Division of the former L. G. Balfour Company in Attleboro for several years until becoming the Assistant City Clerk for the City of Attleboro for 19 years prior to her retirement in July 1988. A resident of Attleboro since 1950, she previously resided in her native community of Pawtucket, Rhode Island prior to moving to Massachusetts. Mrs. McCaughey was a longtime member of the Second Congregational Church in Attleboro where she served her church family as a member of the Players Group, was a member of the church choir and was a senior advisor for the Senior Fellowship. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Hope Chapter #41, Attleboro. Times spent in Oakland, Maine were among her most treasured. She enjoyed the ocean, flowers and solving crossword puzzles. She leaves a daughter: Sharmon E. McCaughey of Attleboro; a son: Dale A. McCaughey of Rehoboth; four grandchildren: Thomas McCaughey of Somerset; David McCaughey of West Bridgewater; Kathryn McCaughey of Somerset and John McCaughey of Somerset and several extended family members and dear friends. She was the sister of the late William Mowry and the late Harley Mowry. Visitation is respectfully omitted. A Memorial Service in Celebration of Her Life will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Second Congregational Church, 50 Park Street, Attleboro with the Rev. F. Vernon Wright, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be private in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Following church services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the church. Please do not send flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. McCaugheys name may be made to the Outreach or Missions Committee of Second Congregational Church, 50 Park Street, Attleboro, MA 02703 or to the Community Visiting Nurse Agency, 10 Emory Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
